No news is good news!

I haven't been blogging lately because things are going so great....you know what they say, "No news is good news!" Which also makes me wonder....who are "they", anyway?

I love being in 5th grade. So far I have taught Math (learned that the Teacher's Manual is my BFF), English and have given spelling tests. I love making up sentences for the words as I give the test.

5th grade kids CRACK ME UP! All of the kids collect and play with MAKEUP SPONGES! Yes, MAKEUP SPONGES! I don't get it, and then I do. It doesn't have to make sense. I love that they're using their imagination. They color faces on the oddly shaped sponge and love squishing them. While I do love their imaginations, I don't care for them playing with their squishy obsessions while I'm trying to teach them about present participles and the like. I uttered a phrase I never thought I would hear myself uttering, "I have seen way too many kids with their makeup sponges out; if I see another one I'm going to take it away!" bahaha.

One thing that still surprises me is that my mere presence makes kids uneasy. It's like I have power or something. It's funny to think that kids hide what they're doing when they see me approaching. Like the girl in me cares? Haha, no---But the teacher in me does. Today I heard kids whisper, "She's coming, dude, put that away" & "She's watching us, stop!" so so great. Can I get an Amen from my fellow teachers? Kids are wonderful and I love what they're teaching me.
