That's Whack!

I have been having a lot of fun teaching lately! It's nice to be complimented. I've had to really hunker down and stop being such a pushover. It's so hard for me because I just love those kids to bits and hate punishing them. I remember when I was a kid and my parents would say, "We don't like punishing you" It's so true---it's horrible.

Today one of my students was out of his seat and I asked why. He snapped back. I firmly told him he needs to be in his seat. He replied with, "Ms. Lett! That's WHACK!" I just smiled and went on my way.

I have been teaching math in the AM. Not the whole lesson, but just a short mini lesson. My anxiety with teaching math is so high that I asked for the book so I could go over the lessons the night before. It has really helped and it's going great. It feels good to build up my confidence in a subject that has pained me for years.

One child has stolen my heart. He is a low student and his self-esteem shows to be damaged by this. It breaks my heart seeing him hide his test scores from other students. I want him to succeed, and I feel there is little I can do that isn't already being done.

I am so looking forward to being a teacher with my very own students. It is quite difficult to jump into another teachers classroom and enforce her rules. Sometimes I find I'm going against her rules, and not because I'm trying to be defiant, but because I disagree and naturally ignore or alter them.

The prayers are working! Life is good! I feel so blessed to be in such a positive learning environment. I hope the kids are as happy as I am. <3

p.s. I got many Valentine's which was so fun =) It cracks me up that quite a few of them spelled my last name wrong. Ms. Latt, Ms. Lette, and Ms. Letta were a few examples. So cute.
