Today was a whirlwind to say the least.
I pulled into the parking lot to find my CT running towards me saying she needed to go to the hospital to have blood drawn. I asked her if she had found a sub, and she pointed to me. Okay, cool--let's do this.
I greeted the students in the morning as I always do with a highfive, handshake or a hug. One boy decided to run away and avoid a highfive. haha. So when I got into the classroom I went up to his desk and said, "You owe me something" Upon putting my hand out towards him for a highfive his face turned red, and as he frowned he handed me the pokemon cards that he was hiding under his desk. He thought I was coming to take those away, but really I just wanted a highfive. As this was happening one boy noticed, and said, "You just turned yourself in, son". I couldn't help but chuckle as I took away his cards. Kids. =)
I subbed in the morning for a bit until she returned and it went well...then I geared up to teach a lesson on fractions while my field coordinator observed. Before she came, I had the opportunity to meet with two boys to talk about their fighting/bullying behavior. I pulled each aside separately and then we all talked together. It felt great to hear them share their sides of the story and then to hear them laughing together in the end.
Right before my field coordinator was to come observe me I went to use the bathroom. On my way to the bathroom I noticed some crazy stuff going on in the boys bathroom. Boys were peeping over the stalls. Oh no they were NOT. I put on my teacher pants and sternly told them to get out of the bathroom or there was going to be a consequence. (thought by being vague it would give me time to THINK of a consequence). After this incident I proceeded to the ladies bathroom where I sliced my arm on the toilet paper dispenser. AWESOME. So I head back into the classroom to teach my lesson as my arm is bleeding. One of those things I guess.
All in all my lesson went wonderfully. I had to teach myself the lesson before hand, but was so proud that I taught math. The one subject I truly struggle in. Done. I don't have to be observed any more for this semester...thank goodness....
How many more days until summer?
That is awesome Katie. I bet that boy had his cards under his shirt and is why he ran by you. I love how the truth came out with you not even asking for it. Justice always prevails.
ReplyDeleteThis blog is good. I am glad you're writing your experience. I am sorry I am late to comment on your articles. You're a very good teacher. Do you remember Mrs. Wesleys coaches chair. You should get one of those someday. You could rock that I think.
I never had Mrs. Wesley...what chair?! I'm intrigued!
