FIRST DAY!!!!!!!!

Today was my first day, and I must say it went great. I helped lead a reading circle which I loved =)

One thing that shocked me happened while the kids were in their centers. Coming from an affluent neighborhood, I've observed children playing house and acting out ''typical'' storylines. Fill in the blank. While observing my kids today I noticed they were playing "rob the bank". My heart sank recalling that children 'play what they know'. Rob the bank. ROB THE BANK. Children were screaming, "Put your hands up", "Give me all your money and now or I'll shoot" This was all before the teacher demanded they change their storyline or choose a new center. I was in shock. I just want to love these kids.

I didn't expect any connections to be made right off the bat, but after helping a little girl with her vocabulary homework she gave me a quick hug. The hug was quick and secret so that no one could see, and it meant the world to me.

May God bless these kids, and my time with them.
