Mission

I am falling in love with each of my students. We are becoming a little family. It's hard to believe that my time is almost up with them. The "love them while you have them" mantra is ringing in my ears. I only have them for a short time, and cannot fix everything, but can love them to bits while I do have them.

One student this morning reminded me of my mission. My mission is here. This particular student tries hard in school, has the best smile and personality, and has completely stolen my heart. This morning this particular student was caught taking leftover breakfast items and stuffing them in his backpack. The other students were quick to alert me to this (of course). Knowing his home situation, I pulled him aside and quietly asked him if he was taking the food for lunch or for home. As suspected, he let me know he was taking the food for home. This sweet boy is homeless and hungry. I quietly gave him the extra food and told him to place it in his backpack and reminded him that this would be our little secret. I sent him away to do this, and turned around to hide the tears streaming from my eyes. This boy is why I'm here. This boy is why I show up every day. This boy.
